On April 20th, 1999, tragedy struck at Columbine High School. I was a high school student myself—1,075 miles away in Kentucky—when the news broke. In that moment, my worst nightmare became a reality.
I share more about this in my testimony found in the book Surviving What Could Have Been. Around that time, a popular magazine published a list of warning signs that often preceded school tragedies—and my school checked every box. What followed was a growing war against school prayer and Christian expression, a battle that shaped who I am today. Still, we never stopped praying—for our school, for protection, and for God’s covering.
May God continue to be with the students who survived that horrific day, and may He comfort the families who still carry the weight of their loss. Though it’s been 26 years, for those directly affected, it still feels like yesterday.
